The police said a Brooklyn man was arrested yesterday and charged with assault in the continuing feud over who will succeed Rabbi Moses Teitelbaum, the leader of the Satmar Hasidim sect of Orthodox Jews, who died last month.The attack, which took place on April 22 in a Williamsburg synagogue, was one of a number of violent encounters that have occurred over the years between supporters of two of the rabbi's rival sons, Rabbi Aaron Teitelbaum and Rabbi Zalmen Teitelbaum. The police said the man charged, Abraham Mendlowitz, a supporter of Zalmen, attacked Abe Rubin, a supporter of Aaron, breaking one of Mr. Rubin's fingers and dislocating another. Mr. Mendlowitz was released and given a desk appearance ticket.
