Yisrael Vales in court today

Haaretz: A father charged with manslaughter after admitting to abusing his three-month-old baby boy, on Monday told the courts that he was withdrawing his confession. Yisrael Vales, 19, is suspected of beating his son and throwing him against the wall because the baby's cries annoyed him. The infant died of his wounds in early April. The baby was hospitalized at Hadassah University Hospital, Ein Karem, in serious condition, with brain hemorrhaging, edema, signs of violence and bites on his body.Vales' attorney Avigdor Feldman told the Jerusalem District Court on Monday that he intends to hold "a secondary trial" to examine the confession Vales gave his interrogators. According to Feldman, the interrogators put heavy pressure on his client while his son was still in hospital in critical condition, telling him he would only see his son if he cooperated with them. Otherwise, Vales was told he would remain in custody, Feldman said.
