Statement by Satmar Community leader Abe Rubin
Satmar community leader Abe Rubin released the following statement following the surrender last week of the three “Zalmonista” perpetrators of violence who caused Mr. Rubin injury while he attempted to worship in his synagogue in Williamsburg last month:
“Thank you to my many well-wishers; I want you to know that I am fine. Also, I am gratified at the action of the New York City Police Department in arresting one of my attackers. The community stands united actions these thug-like actions that recall the efforts to seize control of our community’s institutions. We look forward to District Attorney Hynes' office taking swift action to ensure that these rogues realize the sanction they face.
“We call on the followers of Jeho Kahn to renounce violence and join with the majority of our community in welcoming recognizing Berl Friedman and our board who crowned our Grand Rabbi, Aron Teitelbaum. We also call on those Kahn's dissident followers who contact public officials. community leaders and the media to cease making statements that we will in any way stoop to their violent methods.
“Frankly, this fighting and trend towards violence is something we renounce; the fighting has to stop. We need to restore order as existing in Williamsburg some five years ago before the seizure by the dissidents led by Jeho Kahn in our community of wrongful control of some of our institutions.”
